We're Debt Free!

...now what do we do with this extra money?

Hehe.

For thirteen months, we've been pouring out the thousands of dollars needed to get our loan paid off.

And finally, on Wednesday, my father-in-law, who could do this because he had to co-sign the loan, handed them a signed blank check. Signed by my husband, from our own account. And with that, we became debt free.

It is an enormous weight off our shoulders, for about 30 cows were riding on that loan. If we hadn't paid it off - or if we hadn't been able to keep up with paying interest off every year - they would've been taken as collateral.

Today that worry is gone.

So. Now, what?

Well, we've got a few things to buy, like air conditioners (the two window units we have can't keep up), and other miscellaneous items we've been holding off on.

We need to pay the midwife. And have her completely paid by October 30 (36 week appointment). Not too big a deal, but just something we definitely need to do.

And we need to stock our emergency fund.

Once the emergency fund is stocked, which won't be until sometime next year because we're going to relax and enjoy ourselves as well as make sure the midwife is paid, we'll start looking around at investing, and setting up some sort of accounts for our kids to put money into and cap at a certain amount to give when they marry/move out.

But our future also looks totally crazy.

Hubby will be taking hand-to-hand training (useful in general, especially useful for traveling to places where sidearms are banned), firearms training, and setting up his own range to build a business teaching people of all ages to shoot.

I will be attempting to start a business of my own next month. Details will be announced at a later date.

We're making plans to have this land much improved and also making money - with some trees and a fairly good sized garden - down the road. We need to build fences and clear trash up, first, and if everything goes well, we'll get that started this fall.

Our dream, our GOAL is to be completely self-employed. And making enough money to be comfortable and happy.

And now that we're debt free, we've crossed a huge hurdle in our path to self-employment!
