Reenacting Preparation

Image
This week has been all about prepping for the reenactment that we are headed to tomorrow afternoon. Monday was rest day, and also my six-month wedding anniversary. I made a Facebook post about it, which alerted my sweet husband to what the date was. He is terrible with dates (which doesn't surprise me, so I can completely forgive him and not think twice about it), so he didn't realize just what day it was! So, he brought be a completely unexpected gift: a bouquet he had picked out at Wal-Mart (yes, we're cheap, but this was the first bouquet he ever purchased for a girl, so... I'm perfectly okay with it!). He also brought a box of Reese's Pieces, which we ate for dessert while watching a Tim Hawkins DVD. Tuesday was the first real work day. I got a load of laundry in the wash and also made lemonade... but it turns out I got so wiped out that I didn't make supper (whoops........) and it wasn't until later in the evening that I made the meal for the w

Six Months of Joy

Three days from now, my sweet husband and I will have been married for six months. In those six months, we have participated in two reenactments (and our third as a married couple is next weekend), lived first without any electricity or running water (in the house anyway), and then with electricity and limited running water. We have fallen more and more in love with each other, which is nearly impossible to believe. We were so in love on our wedding day--how could our love have grown like this? My best friend is my husband, and I cannot imagine life without him. Okay, that isn't exactly true, but I have no idea exactly what I would be doing today if we hadn't met a year and a half ago. Sure, I had plans to move out with KitMarie and get a job, saving money toward paying for an entire course with the Thoroughbred Racing Academy in Kentucky. But I wouldn't  be nearly as happy as I am now. I've developed a sort of bond with my father-in-law's stallion, and with th

We Have A Cookie

So last weekend's air soft open house went well--there were lots of guys out on the field, and D was out there all day, except of course to eat a late lunch. In the end, he had a blast and came away sore. That was a lot of running around apparently! I didn't see a thing, for the battles were fought in the brush a good ways from the entrance, so instead I just played with a little six-week-old tom, Cookie. Since I moved away, the cats have been slightly neglected in terms of human attention, so the two litters that had been born since I left were a little shy.  They weren't opposed to getting attention, just being held. Apparently a benefit of them being a little shyer is that Mom can go outside with her computer and have less kitty-editing. Haha! Odo in June Ailisa and Esther, Cookie's great-grandmother and grandmother. Cookie and his two brothers, Chocolate and Chip, spent their nights in the feed shed and were brought to the house every morning, while thei

Our Marriage (at 5 1/2 months)

This marriage, between myself and my sweet husband, has been an adventure. So I have decided to list off an approximate calendar of our first few months of married life and the events that happened in them: March: Married... the month ended while we were on our week-long honeymoon Pre-wedding antics (morning of) D (right) and one of his friends playing with a guitar while Dad looks on He is getting ready to prepare me for the onslaught of birdseed Can I give wedding guests advice? Don't CHUNK the birdseed at the couple--toss it gently over their heads so they can get a nice shower, not a hailstorm. Birdseed in the eyes and ears is not a pleasant sensation. Also some advice for the families/friends of couples getting married--if it is clear that one or both of the couple (especially the groom) DO NOT want their getaway vehicle decorated, DON'T do it! You might just end up scrubbing the vehicle off and cleaning it before they head off on their honeymoon, with th

Six Months to Baby

Give or take a few days, in six months the newest Baker will be in the world. Now what might his or her life be like? This kid will grow up knowing the ins and outs of horse racing as well as its mother. Hopefully one day I can impart the same knowledge to the child's father, too, but that could be a while. Lol... he's awesome though and is pretty consistent at picking winners. Regardless whether we have a son or daughter, this kid will be hunting from day 1. Snakes, squirrels, hogs, deer, etc., will have a renewed sense of fear. Not that they're safe right now with my husband and his cousins always around.... Have no fear. This child will also be drilled in gun safety. There are guns everywhere in this house, for self-defense mostly but also hunting. Little .380 Thunder pistols and .12 gauge shotguns and just about everything in between can be found in this house. Horsemanship will be something this baby possesses. Do you want to know why? Well, when we have
