Accidents Happen

Image
Quite the post title, huh? Well, I didn't quite get photos of all the horses, but here are the ones I did get.... Sneaky, who I've been training for the past couple weeks Windy, who still hasn't dropped her foal by the stallion above And the ones my husband got! Sue, the pinto, and Mandy, the black with her head behind Sue's withers L-R-Jack, Sue (butt angle, grrr), Kaylene, and Sneaky... Not sure where Mandy is Well, since last weekend's post I have... Basically, survived another week without air conditioning (pretty easy for me; I'm used to it, now) And survived a freak accident with Sneaky that I don't remember. He is pretty intelligent, but that day, when we were starting to train him to be ridden, something happened in his head and he panicked and fell, knocking me out. He is the last horse that would intentionally hurt me, just he is a sensitive stallion and something went wrong. However, I actually find myself wanting mor

Horses

So, there are currently six horses on the place. Two are my husband's and mine, one is my father-in-law's, one is my father & sister's, and two are my sister-in-law's. But that's going to change soon. My sister-in-law's (who I'll refer to as M) horse, Windy, is due to foal any day now. Then there will be seven horses on the home place! The oldest horse is D's twenty-one-year-old chestnut grade quarter horse gelding, Stonewall Jackson "Jack". This horse has been in rodeos and reenactments, and despite his age, he has only a little gray on his face, and lots of energy. It's about time he switches to senior feed, and he isn't holding his weight quite as well as he used to, but still he's a pretty great horse. He hasn't reenacted yet this year (in part to cancelled plans), but in September or October he'll be back in action. Gun Shows

Image
D owns a business (Y bar D Leather), which focuses mainly on making holsters (out of leather, obviously) for handguns. These holsters are hand-crafted once the leather is purchased--from cutting the pattern out (and some of the patterns are hand-made) to sewing it up. So, we go to local gun shows, getting our name out there and selling holsters when we can, as well as getting orders, for the business primarily focuses on custom designing the holsters, not just having a cookie cutter type arrangement. Last weekend and the weekend before, we were at gun shows. I sewed up a couple holsters while I was sitting around on the first one, and the second weekend sat down and built this blog. The gun show weekends consist of getting up early and arriving at the site 1-2 hours (depending on if it's Saturday or Sunday) before the show opens, and setting stuff up or straightening it out. Then D will wander around while I sit down and pretty much entertain myself, and maybe watch people

Welcome to My World

Image
Hello, y'all! This is my first blog under my new name. I have recently married, and decided to start a new blog. I was born in Canada, and moved down to Texas eleven years ago. Since last spring, when I met the love of my life, I have married him and moved to near Louisiana. I have one fourteen year old pinto mare, one year-old white tomcat, and one amazing husband who encourages me to see my dreams come true. Where I live, there are five horses, one who is due in a month or two, and two cats, one of which is seen every now and then. Our life is filled with gun shows and "Civil War" reenacting, horses and cows, and hunting and God. I plan to post once a week. I am working on a western, but who knows how long it will take to finish. With my beloved's help, though, it will be my first published novel! With that, I'll leave y'all for now.
