Best Friends

This week was a change from routine. Katharine from L'Art Classique was here from Sunday night until mid-morning on Wednesday.

Yance got passed around a bit on Sunday night, when we went to a going-away fling at a Mexican restaurant in a nearby town for D's second cousin. KitMarie arrived in plenty of time to come to that, and it was awesome. We won't get to see Alli again until the end of September, but working for the season at a dude ranch sounds fun! Even if it isn't being a ranch hand...

Fortunately, Katharine sleeps in and loves it. And she loves cats. Because with Midget and Ekta in the house, Sunday night was fun - they were playing tag for a while outside her room at bedtime!

Anyway, I didn't make my appearance until about 10am Monday morning. And once Yance was put in his swing, we fetched the beautiful three-year-old palomino tobiano half-Quarter Horse filly owned by my sister-in-law, and put her in the pen with her mother. Why? Well, her sire was hanging out with her and her little brother - and my mare. Yeah he's still in the pasture, but we do want Sue bred. And Dingus is no threat - he turns a year old in about six weeks.

We also watered everybody. When we came back to the house, Yance was not happy. But after calming him down and putting him to bed, I made tomato soup for lunch. I didn't burn anything (phew!) and it tasted awesome!

After the boy's afternoon meal, we took him to Ma's for a little while so that Katharine and I could tour a part of the ranch in her Beetle without having to worry about him - and so that Ma could have some one-on-one time with her beloved great-grandson!

We had fun off-roading, but really there wasn't a whole lot to cover in a vehicle, and there were multiple reasons for why we couldn't saddle up and ride - and why we couldn't hike around on foot. So we were back at Ma's in less than an hour.

A little while later, we headed home. Yance got his Monday bath, and once he was put to bed I got my own bath. It was amazing. D also got home before I hopped in the tub, and we hung out for a while, finalizing evening plans. And then we went to the movies and watched "Wonder Woman". I am giving it a "thumbs up and a half", if that's possible - my only issue with it being the way she's dressed. A little more modesty would be appreciated! We also bought a new window air conditioner, which currently sits in the living room in an unopened box.

It should be noted that I turned Ekta outside on Monday. She could handle herself, and it was time she stopped hiding in the house.

Tuesday morning, Yance was put to bed around 10:45, and Katharine and I sat on a picnic blanket in the pasture with the colt, my mare, and the stallion. Call us crazy. The horses were fascinated by our presence - and my boots. All three of them stuck their noses in my boots, sitting beside the blanket, at one point or another. Sue also thought about clobbering us with her curiosity, but before that happened we backed her off the picnic blanket. Dingus wasn't sure whether to be wary or not, and Sneaky had beautiful manners. Thankfully, Sue is no longer in heat - otherwise we would not have sat in the pasture at all!

We had pancakes for lunch, and then fiddled around for a little while, doing random things, until Yance's next meal. After 2pm, we went to Mama's and dropped Yance off. Ma was gone for the afternoon, and the boy's grandmother wanted to see her sweet grandson.

Midget likes Yance, apparently. And no, I did not put the cat in the crib!
Katharine's Beetle was not behaving, so we took Mama's truck and toured the other half of the ranch before taking back roads and going to the lake. We also went to the nearest town and got some cold sweets and a root beer to have with supper.

Then we went back to Mama's. Daddy (Rowdy) was under the hood of Katharine's car, investigating the problem. D was ordered to get power steering fluid while he was still in town, and then we waited for him to arrive. Finally, he got here. And then the cause of the whole issue was discovered. Instead of hiding in a safe place, Ekta had gotten stuck in the fan. The car did need power steering fluid, but the fan needed help, Ekta's body needed removing... and the alternator belt needed to be put back on. It took a while, but at last the car was put back together (minus poor Ekta), and we headed home. That night, we watched episodes of Top Shot's season three.

On Wednesday morning, Katharine headed home. And Thursday, D was out for a long day of work while Yance turned three months old. It was a trade-off, for a long Thursday equaled a Friday off... and here he is! Tonight we go shopping. Tomorrow's the Belmont. Monday Yance sees the cranio-sacral therapist. Sunday... Sunday will probably be our day off from life.

Yance - three months old!

Oh, and happy birthday, Dad!

As for Belmont picks..... Irish War Cry (morning line favorite, post 7) and Patch (post 12).

Today's feature is a Debi Pearl book, "Preparing to be a Help Meet". Katharine and I did the study found in the back of the book, and enjoyed it immensely. It has lots of great advice for wives-to-be, regardless whether they are single or courting/dating. Speaking of, maybe Katharine should read it again?

Anyhow, it can be found for $19 on Amazon!
