Texas In The Spring

Springtime isn't cool and pretty with some showers down here. Nope. It is crazy, with days in the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s and nights in the 30s and 40s and maybe 50s. And then it suddenly decides it's summertime, with 85-95 degree temperatures ruling May.

And lots of wind blowing the pollen around. Awesome. I'm glad we don't have crazy allergies.

Whew.

June means 100 degree weather starts getting here - or maybe it is just a continuation of May. Either way, June 1 means summer, even if it doesn't officially get here until late that month.

Springtime in Texas means pouring rain, crazy weather, green grass, blooming flowers, babies of all species, and unpredictability.

Also it means Yance wants to spend all his time outside.

We went to our first reenactment in a year last weekend, and Yance thoroughly enjoyed spending 36 hours or so outside in the sun and shade. We had fun, too, with D ending up on a 3 mile march with his group on Sunday. I cooked brunch on Sunday and we ate with my family on Saturday. It was a blast, and I really like sleeping under the stars and cooking over a fire and dancing with my love.

Yance got his hair buzzed off on Thursday, to make the summer weather easier to bear and also because he really needed a hair cut. His hair grows fast enough that it should be comfortably long again if/when we go to an Arkansas reenactment at the end of September.

Anyway. Right now we have an overgrown yard, a beautiful flower bush at the end of our driveway, three healthy horses (Sneaky is also FAT), two healthy dogs, and a cat who would like to do more than hang out in the carport to be safe from those dogs. Yance is happy and healthy, the first midwife appointment for baby #2 is Tuesday, and my best friend is coming to visit tonight.

Springtime in Texas ranges from terror due to tornadoes, to joy from actual sunlight and beautiful weather.

Mother's Day is Sunday, and so we get to go hang out with relatives and celebrate all the mothers in the family.

As for my family, we'll celebrate it apart. But next month I hope to make up for it, for of all the mothers in the world, mine is the best. Happy Mother's Day, Mom.
