Happy Birthday, Yance!

Thursday marked the first birthday for our little boy. The birthday party was Sunday.

To commemorate, here is a picture-clogged post.







And, today we got a new puppy. Meet Dakota! Half border collie half mutt. Little guy is Duke's new buddy.


Tuesday, we get Dingus gelded. Then he gets a bit of a break from hard work for a couple weeks.

Miracles

I am still writing this blog thanks to a miracle. A miracle that happened one year ago yesterday. The stallion I was breaking in was being ridden (by me) for the first time. And D and I made a mistake, which led to a nearly-fatal accident. The horse freaked out, scurried backwards, and fell onto his back. Fell onto me. D was sure I had died, and even today is still likely to let a tear slip when he thinks about it. I apparently was brought back to consciousness, but I have no memories from the moment that I suggested something to D late into the ride (the suggestion that ultimately led to the wreck), to the moment I woke the next morning in a hotel with D, and my parents in another room. Thus, one year ago today is the day I was told, to my memory, that I was pregnant. I was excited. The fact that Yance and I are here is a miracle. I came away with a diagnosis of a mild concussion and definite pregnancy, and bruises that come from being slammed to hard dirt from five ...

Prep Time

Well, I had my 36 week appointment yesterday. Apparently I need to do a better job stretching (surprise, surprise), and drinking water (again, surprise....), but other than that everything is fine. I got my blood drawn for the third and final time this pregnancy, which went well - after I went and got some food and water. It was 9:30 in the morning and I hadn't eaten breakfast yet or remembered to get a drink. Whoops. My husband had to take me back to the birth center about 11:30 to get the blood drawing done. Fortunately we had planned other stuff in town anyway so we could go get food and such before going back. I'm glad he puts up with me NOT doing stuff.... Let's see... The bathroom is well covered in drywall mud, and Dad plans to come back next weekend (not tomorrow) to prime it so we can shower. We've been able to take baths, but not showers. At the moment we are just grateful to have running water to the bathtub after a year of owning the house! ...

I'm Bragging (a bit)

Last weekend, D and I were at the local gun show. It was depressing. We did make enough to pay for the table and the food we ate but all of the business came from the local Sons of Confederate Veterans camp, which my dear D is apart of and had a booth set up in the same area of the Civic Center as us! Despite all the frustration, it actually managed to be slightly better than the Memorial Day weekend gun show at the same place. The colt is still unnamed but mostly because nobody is actually in a real rush to name him. We have plenty of name options, so we do not have a shortage of those! Hungry little baby! My family is coming down tomorrow for the day, so we won't have a completely boring weekend, though that would almost be nice. Last weekend, with its early rising just like during the work week, got to me and I will appreciate the ability to sleep in this weekend.
