Rambling

I drowned my phone on Monday. I was trying to get out of the tub and dropped it in there. At first, we thought it might recover, but it didn't. And so, I have been communicating to friends and family on my laptop, and through my husband's phone. I actually don't miss it all that much, so I guess it's not a priority to get a new one. I rather enjoy being phone-less. Father and son a couple weeks ago The weather has been wet and also sunny this week, and with Easter on Sunday it looks like we'll be dealing with soggy ground. Fun. We get anniversary pictures taken this weekend. That will be fun! The horses have spent a lot of time in the yard this week, mowing it down and enjoying the juicy grass. We're still recovering from the weekend trip. I'm pretty sure that Yance and I both appreciate healthier foods, as we've been dealing with rather upset stomachs - though I have greatly improved and he only dealt with it in the middle of the night. Two Years, Many Changes

Image
Well, Monday marks two years of marriage for me and D. In that time, we've gotten a colt, gelded the colt, gotten a son, written a book, installed electricity and water in our home (yay!), installed a wood stove, installed a washing machine and dryer, repaired said dryer twice, had several work days, sold a horse, gone through three phones and one laptop between the two of us (and my third phone is suffering... oops), met Dustin Ellermann, gotten two dogs, gone through several cats (but managed to keep one), and gotten two more siblings between the two of us - via marriage and also birth. Our first niece or nephew is due early May. Through it all, we've stuck by each other and look forward to many more years together. We will be out of debt and have at least three months of expenses in an emergency fund by our third anniversary. So here's a selection of pictures from the last two years. This weekend, we're going away. Just for two days and one nig...

What A Week

Image
Sunday, we were lazy early and busy late, shopping and moving hay and working on leather. Monday, the power was out because a big truck had wiped out some power lines a quarter mile up the road. So, we had to take a long route to get to my mother-in-law's and enjoy some time there in electricity while she got to see her grandson. I also used the internet there to post the video of week one of Dingus - which took all day. YouTube is frustrating at times. So to recap - Monday I was avoiding semis on a one-and-three-quarter-lane road, navigating around dogs, and all in all not being 100% sound behind the wheel. I was really off for some reason. BUT! We got the signed transfer from Sneaky's breeder in the mail, so that's awesome! Tuesday, we took Dingus to the vet. We had loaded him up Monday night with water and hay, and then I took the hay and water out just before we took off. He won't step on concrete, we found out, but besides that he did pretty well when we dr...

Happy Birthday, Yance!

Image
Thursday marked the first birthday for our little boy. The birthday party was Sunday. To commemorate, here is a picture-clogged post. And, today we got a new puppy. Meet Dakota! Half border collie half mutt. Little guy is Duke's new buddy. Tuesday, we get Dingus gelded. Then he gets a bit of a break from hard work for a couple weeks. Later today, my first video will be live on the YouTube channel All Things Baker! Look out!

Our Rights as a People

The bill of rights was designed to prevent abuse of the power of the Constitution, and to prevent people from misconstruing it. And so, here they are. And now there are those who would like to stop free, peaceful speech, and also make the government favor or hate different religions. Like: defend Muslims, and hate Christians, or just be indifferent to one and love the other. Jews and Israelis also feel disdain from different members of the government. There are those, who have the right to both bear and NOT bear arms, who would have us give up our best method of self-defense and our tools. Look. Our right to bear arms is being infringed upon way too much as it is, what with different states requiring permits, being a certain age, and just what we can and cannot have. Taking away AR-15s would be taking away my husband's hunting rifle, and the rifle he carries on the property to defend himself from coyotes, mad hogs, snakes, and other dangerous animals. And you would be takin...

Vlog Channel Contest

Image
So. I am going to be starting a vlog. Every weekend, I'll be posting a fairly long video, on YouTube, about what's been going on in my life. However.... The channel needs a name (I didn't want to just use Transplanted In Texas). And therefore I am announcing a vlog-channel naming contest! The prize is TBD (sorry). This channel will be featuring things like.... Yance's milestones (he turned 11 months old and was weaned two Thursdays ago!) Major events along our financial journey to getting debt free (we aim to be out of debt by July 4) Horse training and riding (Dingus!) And other things that happen with a young family on a cattle ranch The contest ends February 24. My husband is also going to start a vlog about his shooting and guns and holsters and that kind of thing, and I will keep you updated on that. The camcorders arrive today! And on March 1, if everything goes as planned, I will begin training Dingus. Yance turns one year old on March...
