We're Growing

The Y.D. & R.K. Baker family came into existence on March 26, 2016.

It grew on March 8, 2017, with the birth of a son, Yancey Lane.

And this November, it will grow again.


Yance will become a big brother around the time of hubby's birthday, and Thanksgiving will be a fun time of year.

So far, this pregnancy has been a lot easier to handle than Yance was, for with him nausea kept me confined to bed a lot. This time around, I can clean house and keep everybody cared for and fed.

We're all excited about baby #2. We don't care if it's a boy or a girl, and my only fear is that there is more than one, although that is unlikely.


D and I couldn't be happier, and I look forward to having a little one again. Yance will be happy to have somebody to play with - though the wait will be a bit longer than he would like. Lol babies don't get born ready to clobber and be clobbered by a one year old.

We will be a family of four by our third anniversary. And what an adventure it's been already.

I am still writing this blog thanks to a miracle. A miracle that happened one year ago yesterday. The stallion I was breaking in was being ridden (by me) for the first time. And D and I made a mistake, which led to a nearly-fatal accident. The horse freaked out, scurried backwards, and fell onto his back. Fell onto me. D was sure I had died, and even today is still likely to let a tear slip when he thinks about it. I apparently was brought back to consciousness, but I have no memories from the moment that I suggested something to D late into the ride (the suggestion that ultimately led to the wreck), to the moment I woke the next morning in a hotel with D, and my parents in another room. Thus, one year ago today is the day I was told, to my memory, that I was pregnant. I was excited. The fact that Yance and I are here is a miracle. Being a Mom

Today I change course a little. Today, I focus less on my other passions and transform this blog into telling of how I juggle being a mom with those passions - horseback riding and training, this blog, and horse racing... and being a wife. Will you join me as I tell the tales of the ups and downs of being the mother of one adorable, sometimes-cranky, people-person boy? As I write this, my eleven-week-old son is sitting next to me, grinning and chatting. Last weekend, he enjoyed being passed around from aunt to uncle and grandparent to grandparent, and meeting two people he had never seen before - my best friend and her father. Right now, Yance sleeps about six and a half hours a night and gets fed six times a day. Woken for each meal, he spends an hour to an hour and a half awake (including meal time), and then he gets tired and cranky and put to bed. The only exception is for his morning meal, at 5:30. Prep Time

Well, I had my 36 week appointment yesterday. Apparently I need to do a better job stretching (surprise, surprise), and drinking water (again, surprise....), but other than that everything is fine. I got my blood drawn for the third and final time this pregnancy, which went well - after I went and got some food and water. It was 9:30 in the morning and I hadn't eaten breakfast yet or remembered to get a drink. Whoops. My husband had to take me back to the birth center about 11:30 to get the blood drawing done. Fortunately we had planned other stuff in town anyway so we could go get food and such before going back. I'm glad he puts up with me NOT doing stuff.... Let's see... The bathroom is well covered in drywall mud, and Dad plans to come back next weekend (not tomorrow) to prime it so we can shower. We've been able to take baths, but not showers. At the moment we are just grateful to have running water to the bathtub after a year of owning the house! ...
